Wen-Shan Baozhong Cha (Wenshan Pouchong Tea)

$7.00$18.00

Wenshan Baozhong is another one of those fabulous tea varieties indigenous to Taiwan and marked by a curious production process. Rolled sideways and roasted ever so slightly, it’s called ‘paper tea’ because it was roasted while wrapped in thin paper sheets.

With the leaves left pure green, it’s often ranked to the class of green teas rather than oolongs, a tendency that is supported by its scent, which is dominated by a herbal briskness reminiscent of tarragon. Its taste is far more elaborate, though, the briskness toned down to a soft menthol feel, with overtones of oolong sweetness and an acidic element that comes closer to apple than to any citrus fruit. But what makes this tea so special is the unique feel it dons, lingering on the breath throughout the brews and incomparable to any rolled oolong.
